The Gurls
These are the gurls

After having played professionally from the time I was a teenager, I experienced an injury in 1979 which caused nerve damage in my right elbow, effectively ending my musical career. After almost three decades I decided I would conquer this little setback and set my mind to how I would go about it.
I now play, using a stick in my left hand but a specially designed glove on my right, and no stick. My set is built around Roland V Drums with a TD 20 Module. Depending on my needs, I add in a Roland SPD 20 percussion synthesizer, a handful of Pintech DB 12 triggers, various hand drums and an 18" floor tom for added emphasis, as the mood strikes me along with cowbells, wood blocks and a tambourine. I use a Treeworks 43 bar Bar Chime and a Han Chi 20" gong for that occasional dramatic moment. I use Sabian cymbals. I like thinner cymbals since I hit them with my hand rather than a stick. You can't be too careful.
My hand drums are LP 30th Anniversary conga, quinto and tumba. Two Djembes, an LP 14" Galaxy Giovanni Series and a 17" Remo Leon Mobley Signature Series. Rounding out this eclectic collection is a pair of black TOCA Dumbeks and a pair of aluminum Turkish Darbukas. Just for good measure I keep a trio of Pulse Roto Toms handy.
